Preserving the rurality of Magog's District 6. Québec, Canada

For whom and why this Association

This website is primarily aimed at the 1,632 landowners in District-6 of Magog.

All neighbours and friends are welcome.

The territory of District-6 of Magog, predominantly rural, borders a large part of the northeast shore of Lake Memphremagog, and includes the northern part of Lake Lovering. And as you can see in the aerial photo, District 6 and Canton de Stanstead - its southern neighbour - form a rural and homogeneous territorial entity.

In the past, District 6 has been operated in rural mode (Canton of Magog).

Since 2003, it has been administered in the same way as an urban district of Magog.

And unlike a more stable recent past, its residents find themselves taxed beyond reason, without benefiting from the main services (aqueduct, sewers, Hydro-Magog, urban roads, etc.).

Even worse: the situation will become much more dramatic in January 2025, when the next assessment roll is taken into account.

Don’t think that this is all about taxes. We are also speaking about services, environmental concerns, the preservation of our greatest attractions and assets, and most of all a vision of the future that respects both the past and the ecological commitments necessary for the perpetuation of our quality of life.

The residents of Canton de Stanstead - like those of District-6 - are committed to the preservation of their pristine natural environment, of the quality of life of their population, of a healthy municipal management appropriate to needs, as well as of realistic approach to sustainable development.

NOTE: the photos published on our pages come from District-6 of Magog, Canton de Stanstead, and Magog.

How to go about it

We therefore deem it appropriate to question our municipal allegiance, and to simultaneously consider annexation with a neighboring municipality which shares our rural way of life, our environmental priorities, as well as a concern for balanced management.

The process is complex, but perfectly codified by Quebec municipal laws. For 18 months, the Memphré-Rural Association (AMR) has analyzed all the ins and outs of the situation experienced by the landowners of District-6. The time has come to make a decision.

As you can see by browsing the site menu, it all starts with numbers (which say a lot), then comes the words (which shed light on the debate), and finally the action (which brings the project to fruition).

In our type of intervention, success depends on numbers. Created in 2022 and registered in 2023, the AMR already has more than 200 members among the 1,650 landowners in District-6 (September 2023).

Dear fellow citizens of District-6 contact us to stay informed...and even better, if you are a resident and especially a landowner in this district, become a member or make a contribution to increase our chances of success.

And you can always tell us what you think of our approach in this short survey.
